For years, many have asked, and I’ve been slooooow to answer.
Over 21 years of reading, I’ve developed a lot of views about tarot: why it’s important, what it can do for you - and most importantly, how we learn to read. Whether this was something I could teach others I wasn’t sure, so I did a few trials: I drew up a syllabus, I taught some classes out of my home, and whenever in-person clients asked to learn more, I shared some tips I thought would help.
But it really wasn’t until I gained confidence as a teacher, away from the tarot world - teaching writing to graduates and undergraduates - that I felt I could design a course that would truly take readers step-by-step through the process of gaining a basic understanding of the cards.
I believe you’ll find The Living Tarot has something to offer you no matter how long you’ve been reading cards - a year, a lifetime, or not at all. I think tarot works as a reflection of our ordinary lives and the world around us. It’s not something we do to become secret initiates, or impress other people, or spook ourselves with uncanny predictions - though all those things may happen. It’s a way of helping ourselves and others. It is rich fuel for the intellect and imagination. And it is a form of everyday magic, whether or not you believe in such things.
For the past week, I’ve offered a beta version of the course to family and friends. Many have come on board and I’ve been heartened to see the learning and exploration taking place in real time. “It works!!!” I’ve (very quietly) exulted. “It really works!”
