Folks, I’m so excited! The Living Tarot book has been years in the making. It’s my answer to a question that has haunted me for years: How do you teach someone tarot? How does an ordinary person turn into an arbiter of fortune, a dweller at the crossroads? How do you become the living paradox that is a tarot reader?
The answer: You teach yourself.
Tarot is not a skill like carpentry, or a craft like scrapbooking. The substance of tarot is not the cards, which are just a tool. It's life itself—your life! Everything in life is in the cards! If you are an incarnate human being on this earth, then the deck you hold in your hands is a microcosm of everything you know: as above, so below. When you shuffle the cards, you produce out of chaos a living imprint of the world around you. And when you read the poetry of image, you bring a new universe into being.
A tarot deck reflects everything, and I do mean everything: the cute person you saw on the bus, the day you finally threw out your face mask, your weird habit of reading while you eat. I may call these the Knight of Wands, the Star, the 9 of Pentacles. You may call them something else (we’ll discover what as you journey through the book). Each card shows a slice of the life you're already living—it's just a little in disguise. See through the disguise, and you're reading tarot.
If you are new to the cards, The Living Tarot will give you a solid foundation on which to build your house of divination. If you're a somewhat experienced or even a veteran reader, it will help you fill in interpretive gaps and consolidate your knowledge into a strong and flexible practice. By the time you reach the end of it, you’ll be speaking fluent metaphor - not just another language, but the language of Creation! What you choose to do with it...is up to you.
